ParticipantOld School RuneScape’s (OSRS) Heroes’ Quest is a iconic, member-only quest that separates casual adventurers from true heroes. It grants access to the prestigious Heroes’ Guild, unlocks powerful gear, and serves as a prerequisite for some of the game’s most impactful content. While labeled “Experienced” in difficulty, this guide breaks down every step, requirement, and tip to help you complete the quest smoothly-no frustration required.
1. Quest Overview & Key Requirements
Heroes’ Quest is more than a simple errand; it’s a test of your skills, questing experience, and ability to collaborate. The core goal is to gather three rare items for Achietties, the guardian of the Heroes’ Guild, to prove your worth.
Before starting, ensure you meet all requirements-skipping any will lead to dead ends. All skill requirements are boostable, so don’t let a few levels stop you.
1.1 Skill & Quest Requirements
55 Quest Points (earned from completing prior quests like Shield of Arrav and Dragon Slayer I).
53 Cooking (boostable with Chef’s Delight or Admiral Pie).
53 Fishing (boostable with Admiral Pie).
25 Herblore (boostable with Greenman’s Ale).
50 Mining (boostable with Dwarven Stout +1).
Completed Quests: Shield of Arrav, Lost City, Merlin’s Crystal, and Dragon Slayer I.
1.2 Partner Requirement (Critical!)
Unlike most OSRS quests, Heroes’ Quest cannot be completed alone. You need a partner from the opposite gang you joined in Shield of Arrav (Black Arm Gang or Phoenix Gang). If you’re unsure your gang, check your quest log or speak to Jonny the Beard in Varrock.
Find a partner via the Grouping Interface, OSRS community chats, or friends-just ensure they meet the same skill/quest requirements.
2. Required & Recommended Items
Gather these items before starting to avoid backtracking. Most can be obtained during the quest, but having them ready saves time.
2.1 Essential Items
Ice Gloves (obtainable during the quest by defeating the Ice Queen).
Harralander Potion (Unfinished) or a clean Harralander + Vial of Water.
Fishing Rod (can be bought from Port Sarim or obtained during the quest).
Fishing Bait (if you don’t have baitless fishing unlocked).
Pickaxe (for mining rockslides and accessing certain areas).
2.2 Gang-Specific Items
Black Arm Gang Members: Black Full Helm, Black Platebody, and Black Platelegs (trimmed versions or plateskirts won’t work).
Phoenix Gang Members: 1,000 Coins or Ring of Charos (a), plus a ranged/magic weapon (if completing with a partner).
2.3 Recommended Items
Combat gear (for fighting the Ice Queen, level 77–111 depending on your version).
Food (lobsters or better) and Stamina Potions (for long travels).
Anti-Dragon Shield or Antifire Potion (for avoiding dragonfire in Taverley Dungeon).
Fast teleports (Lodestones, Games Necklace, or Varrock Teleport Runes) to save time.
3. Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Start by speaking to Achietties outside the Heroes’ Guild, located just south of Burthorpe. She will task you with collecting three items: an Entranan Firebird Feather, a Cooked Lava Eel, and a Master Thief’s Armband. You can collect these in any order.
3.1 Step 1: Obtain the Entranan Firebird Feather
First, you need Ice Gloves to handle the firebird’s feather (it will burn your hands otherwise). To get Ice Gloves, head to White Wolf Mountain (west of Taverley).
Enter the first cave, mine the rockslide, and follow the tunnels to reach the Ice Queen. Defeat her (she hits hard, so use food and prayer if needed) to get the Ice Gloves.
Next, sail to Entrana (via Port Sarim) and equip the Ice Gloves. The Entranan Firebird is north of the Law Altar-kill it (it’s level 1–2, so it’s easy) and take the feather.
3.2 Step 2: Obtain the Cooked Lava Eel
Lava Eels can be fished in two locations: Taverley Dungeon or the Lava Maze. For Taverley Dungeon, you’ll need a Dusty Key (defeat the Jailer, level 39, to get it) or 70 Agility for the shortcut.
Equip your Fishing Rod and Bait, then fish at the lava spot. Once you catch a Lava Eel, cook it on any fire or range (53 Cooking required-remember, it never burns!).
3.3 Step 3: Obtain the Master Thief’s Armband
This is where your partner is critical. Meet your partner in Varrock and trade them a Candlestick (buy one from the General Store if needed). They will return it to their gang, and you’ll receive the Master Thief’s Armband in exchange.
If completing solo (not recommended), use Lockpicks or a Hair Clip to access the gang hideout-but a partner is far faster and easier.
3.4 Step 4: Complete the Quest
Return to Achietties outside the Heroes’ Guild with all three items: Entranan Firebird Feather, Cooked Lava Eel, and Master Thief’s Armband. Hand them over, and she will grant you access to the guild.
